Yellow Barn Winery

Yellow Barn Winery is the only winery in Watertown, New York. Watertown has one of the most challenging climates to grow wine grapes in the United States. Here we can have snow as late as May and frost early in September. Temperatures can dip to minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit in mid-winter. Wine making is a fairly new concept in the North Country but shows great promise for future growth as the region embraces its ability to produce cold hardy grape varieties.

The winery is on the Surdo family farm. In 2002 they started experimenting with cold hardy grapes and were probably the only ones around happy when the temperatures hit minus 40 to see if the grapes survived and produced well that year. The winery is pleased to report that that crop and all since have produced wonderfully. Those very grapes are what we use to produce the many varieties of wine on site. From reds to whites, sweet wines to dry, they have something for every taste. Goldie White, Frontenac, Eventide, Mill Creek Red and Deer Run are just a few of our most popular flavors.

Yellow Barn is open seven days a week from June to Columbus Day from 11 am to 6 pm. After Columbus Day, call 315-782-1824 for hours. Come on in and look around. If you mention that you are on the 1000 Islands Ag Tour, you receive a free wine tasting with a souvenir wine glass.
