In 1904, J.K. Crowley purchased a small dairy business located in Poughkeepsie, NY and founded the Crowley Dairy Company. In 1915, he moved the headquarters to Binghamton, NY and acquired the LaFargeville facility in 1954 from the Jersey Milk and Cream Company. In 2004, HP Hood LLC of Lynnfield, Mass. purchased the Crowley Foods holdings and added the Crowley Foods Brands to its line of fine Dairy products. HP Hood distributes a full line of dairy products from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River, from Maine to Florida including an Aseptic plant in California. Familiar brands include Heluva Good, Axelrod, Hood, Baileys, Rosenberger's, Penn Maid, Maggio Cheese and Crowley as well as numerous private labels produced in its 18 production facilities.

In 1960 the LaFargeville plant was converted from a milk receiving plant to a cultured products facility in order to take advantage of the plentiful milk supply of the region.
