Almedan Produce

At Almedan Produce they do things a bit differently. They specialize in high tunnel growing of vegetables. The structures, sometimes called plastic greenhouses, field houses or cold frames, are filled with tomatoes, onion, radishes, okra, melons and peppers. Although the process is all-natural, soil grown plants, they control the climate inside the tunnel to provide a longer growing season. More of these structures are beginning to pop up across the North Country as more people discover the benefits of high tunnel production. By extending the growing season, high tunnel production also allows consumers to purchase locally grown produce for an extended period of time.

The newest tunnel is for fall raspberry growing. They are working closely with Cornell Cooperative Extension on this project to show new ways of growing fruits in this region.

Owner Almeda Grandjean loves to talk about this growing process and has a lot of advice to offer anyone who may wish to enjoy tunnel growing. Please call 315-767-4742 to arrange a time for a visit. During harvest season you can find vegetables grown within the tunnels, in addition to other crop vegetables available for sale at the farm. Sweet corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans, peppers, and squash are a few of our specialties.
