Rhodes Greenhouses

Welcome to Rhodes Greenhouses, the largest grower of spring plants in this part of Jefferson County.  This 8- acre site is not only rich in nutrients, it’s rich in history.  This was once the farm of Revolutionary War Soldier Oliver Bates who settled here about 1807.  Just south of the greenhouses, in an area known as Alexander Corners, there sits a beautiful stone house built by Oliver and his son Cyrus.  This house is listed on the State and National Register of historic places.  Cyrus’ daughter, Sarah Bates, married Orson Pratt on the property in July of 1836.  Pratt was a leader in the Latter Day Saints movement and was an original member of the Quorum of Twelve Apostles.

The Rhodes family transformed the property to a greenhouse business in 1962 growing bedding plants, perennials, vegetables, herbs and Proven Winner plants.  The newest addition is the High Tunnel Production of vegetables as well as field grown crops.  Beautiful display gardens are located between the greenhouse operation and the Alexander Corners General Store which are at their visual best between mid-June and October.  While you’re here be sure to visit the Alexander Corners Veterans and Pearl Harbor Memorial honoring our veterans and their families.

In addition to our plants, we also sell many New York State agricultural products such as maple syrup, Sackets Harbor beer, Great Lakes cheese and more.  Our greenhouses are open mid-May through September from 8 am – 5 pm, seven days a week.  The General Store is open year round.   Come on in and see what’s growing!
