Holmdale Farms was once a dairy farm, but today they are solely a beef operation. They have a completely integrated farm, meaning that they go from calf to finished product all on their farm. The calves are born in the spring and remain outside with their mothers through the summer and the fall. In the winter they are brought into the barn and raised on forages. Once they are 800 pounds they are put into a freestall and finished on 45% grain, which is relatively low according to industry standards. They sell a majority of their beef privately to retailers on the east coast. A cow weighing 1000 pounds will have a 615 pound carcass that will have 432 pounds of meat on it. The rest of the cow will not go to waste. Beef cattle byproducts are used in soaps, glue, shortening, gum, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. While they do not have a store or road side stand, they do sell beef quarters and halves.
