Crowley Foods
In 1904, J.K. Crowley purchased a small dairy business located in Poughkeepsie, NY and founded the Crowley Dairy Company.  In 1915, he moved the headquarters, to Binghamton, NY, where it still is today.  Crowley Foods is now owned by H.P. Hood LLC, and distributes a full line of dairy products, refrigerated beverages, frozen desserts, and specialty products.  Crowley Foods is made up of six dairy food brands including Crowley, Heluva Good, Rosenberger’s Dairy, Axelrod, Maggio Cheese, and Penn Maid Dairy.  The Lafargeville plant was purchased in 1954, where it had been used as a milk receiving plant since the 1920’s.  In 1960, it was converted to process cultured dairy products.   At the plant they make yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, and cream cheese and produce 130 million pounds of cultured dairy products annually.  The plant currently employs 190 people.  These people are very involved, holding fundraising and philanthropic events within the community.  They are currently working on an initiative to make the plant more energy efficient.  The Crowley plant does not give tours, so we appreciate you viewing this stop from the road.  Be sure to look for their yogurt, cream cheese, sour cream, and cottage cheese in local stores!
