Horses have been used in different ways for thousands of years. They have been used as transportation, for food, and for pulling heavy loads. Today we mainly use our horses for recreation and sport. There are over 1000 horses in Jefferson County; this number may seem irrelevant however in New York State there are over 84,000 horses. Durand’s East Edge Ranch is a year round horse boarding, and training facility. Instructor Elizabeth Hodge, a Richard Shrake certified trainer and clinician offers lessons in resistance free riding for both English and Western riders.
